Questions People Ask

All 47 Questions →
How Much Does It Cost To Join A Syndicate?

It varies a lot. Of the 44 active listings that publish a starting price, 10 have an option with no upfront cost (a lease or club membership), and the rest start anywhere from £37 to £8,950 for their cheapest share. Monthly fees, where published, range from £27 to £329 a month for the smallest share, and 7 say there is no monthly fee at all. Bigger shares and better-bred horses cost more. See the cheapest syndicates list (it includes an estimated first-year cost), the monthly Price Index and our guide how much does a racehorse share cost?, and check whether VAT is included. To add up a particular share over one, two or three years, try our Cost Calculator.

What's The Difference Between A Syndicate And A Racing Club?

Syndicate members usually hold a named share in a specific horse (or horses) and pay costs in proportion to it. Racing clubs sell memberships, usually for a year: cheaper and simpler, with access to stable visits and race days, but badges are often balloted and there's normally little or no prize money. We list 31 clubs (or syndicate-and-club operators); see racing clubs, racing clubs under £100 and our guide syndicate vs racing club.

In the FAQ →

Do I Get Owners' Badges On Race Days?

Usually, but how many and how often varies. Some syndicates guarantee a badge for every member when their horse runs, some allocate badges by share size, and some (especially clubs) use a ballot. Our Owners' badges column shows each syndicate's stated policy; you can filter by it in the Compare table, and our guide to owners' badges and race days lists every policy.

In the FAQ →

What Does The BHA Register Tick Mean?

We tick listings found on the BHA's public register of licensed syndicators and racing club managers. We last checked it on 24 Oct 2026, and 84 listings in our directory have a tick, either under their own name or under the manager their website names. The BHA Register page lists them with each register entry. If a licence matters to you, check with the BHA directly. Irish clubs come under Horse Racing Ireland instead.

In the FAQ →

Do Syndicate Members Get Prize Money?

Some syndicates pass the owners' share of prize money on to members in proportion to their shares; others keep some or all of it to offset costs. Prize money also only goes so far: for most horses it won't cover the running costs. The profile pages show each syndicate's stated prize-money terms, and you can filter for "No prize-money deduction" in the Compare table. See prize money explained for how it's split, or try a win in the Cost Calculator.

In the FAQ →

Does RacingDatabase.com Recommend Particular Syndicates?

No. We show the facts as published so you can compare and decide for yourself. We don't rank syndicates on quality. The Matchmaker suggests a shortlist from your answers, but that's a fit to what you asked for, not a recommendation, and Featured and Premium listings are labelled paid placements.
