Owners' Badges, Stable Visits And Race Days: What You Get As An Owner
The Short Answer
When your horse runs, you'll usually get an owners' badge: free entry to the course and the owners' and trainers' area, and often a place in the parade ring before the race. How you get one varies. Of the 53 active listings that state a policy, 30 guarantee a badge, 7 share them out by share size and 16 use a ballot or don't guarantee them. Stable visits, regular updates and owners' events make up the rest of the experience.

What An Owners' Badge Gets You
An owners' badge (often called an O&T badge, for owners and trainers) is your pass for the day your horse runs. Syndicates describe it in different ways. Diomed Racing talks about a racecourse admission badge with access to the parade ring and winner's enclosure, The Legacy Group Racing Club about raceday entry to the Owners & Trainers lounge, and Clarendon Thoroughbred Racing – Ed Bethell about complimentary badges, parking and hospitality. Ask your syndicate exactly what's included, and whether guests can come too.
Three Kinds Of Badge Policy
- Guaranteed: every member (or every share) gets a badge each time the horse runs. Some give two.
- Allocated by share size: the bigger your share, the more badges. Middleham Park Racing: No ballot: 2.5% = 1 badge, 5%+ = 2 badges.
- Ballot / not guaranteed: when there are more members than badges, names are drawn. This is common with racing clubs, where many members share each horse.
Here's how the 102 active listings in our directory break down by type:
| Badge policy | Syndicate | Lease syndicate | Syndicate & club | Racing club | All |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guaranteed | 27 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 30 |
| Allocated by share size | 5 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 7 |
| Ballot / not guaranteed | 7 | 2 | 2 | 5 | 16 |
| Not stated | 41 | 0 | 3 | 5 | 49 |
"Not stated" means the syndicate doesn't publish a policy we could find, not that there are no badges. Filter the comparison table by badge policy, or see syndicate vs racing club.

Big Meetings And Busy Days
Even a guaranteed badge can come with limits on the biggest days, when owners' allocations are tight. Some examples from published terms:
- Racing Knights: Tickets allocated to all shareholders for all UK meetings, except Premier meetings (Ascot, Chester, Newmarket, Saturdays incl. the Ebor, Cheltenham Festival, overseas) where an extra charge may apply.
- Opulence Thoroughbreds: 2 owners badges per run; majority shareholders get first refusal on major days.
- Elite Racing Club: Members can apply for a parade-ring owners' badge whenever a Club horse runs; places are limited by the racecourse.
- Fakenham Race Club: Ballot at Fakenham (6–7 badges); members report always getting one at away meetings.
- Amazing Racing Syndicates guarantees one badge per shareholder but says festival meetings may have limits (source).
Beyond Race Days: Stable Visits And Updates
Most of the year your horse isn't running, so the updates and visits matter just as much. Of the 58 active listings that describe what's included, 23 mention stable or yard visits, gallops mornings or open days. For example:
- Fred Archer Racing Syndicates: Monthly 'FAR Mornings' at Pegasus Stables, Newmarket; social events.
- Alan King Racing Club: Four club horses (two Flat, two jumps) for 12 months; yard visits at Barbury Castle; managed by Nick Brown.
- Hambleton Racing says owners are invited to the yard before the season to help name their horse, meet the trainer and watch the string work (source).
Ask how often you'll hear from the trainer or syndicate manager, and how (email, WhatsApp, an app or video), and how many stable visits there are each year.
ROA Membership: More Days At The Races
The Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) runs a Racecourse Badge Scheme that gives members owners' access at racecourses on days their horse isn't running. On 21 Oct 2026 the ROA's site said:
- Associate membership is "designed for individuals with an interest in a racehorse/s through a syndicate or racing club". It costs £118.80 a year, or £133.80 for Associate+ (both including VAT), and includes up to 7 badges a year under the scheme (ROA Associate, membership options).
- Full membership costs £297 a year (£498 joint) and, from January 2026, includes up to 50 badges a year.
- The scheme covers over 1,300 fixtures, more than 93% of the fixture list, and badges are pre-booked through the Racecourse Association's PASS system. The ROA confirms that people who own shares in syndicates qualify (ROA Badge Scheme).
Prices and allowances change, so check the ROA's site before joining. We're not connected with the ROA.
