Racehorse Syndicate Price Index

What does a racehorse share really cost in its first year? Once a month we take a snapshot of the published prices of UK syndicates and racing clubs and record the middle (median) first-year cost. In October 2026 it was £910, across the 30 listings whose prices let us cost a full year.

Price index graphic, published prices only: median estimated first-year cost £910 in October 2026 across 30 costed listings, from £99 to £8,950.
This index began in October 2026. That month is the baseline: prices were first recorded on 23 Oct 2026, so there are no earlier months and we haven't back-filled any. A new month is added on the 1st of each month, so the table below grows from here.

How We Calculate It

  • Est. first-year cost is the upfront price plus 12 months of fees for the cheapest share we can fully cost, from each syndicate's own published prices. Where the prices don't add up to a clear year we say "Ask syndicate" and leave the listing out. The full method.
  • Which listings: the 30 active UK (sterling) listings we can cost in October 2026. Listings flagged "Possibly inactive" are left out, and so are the Republic of Ireland listings, whose prices are in euros and are never converted or compared.
  • Median means the middle value when the listings are lined up from cheapest to dearest. It isn't an average, so one very dear or very cheap listing doesn't swing it. Lowest and highest are the two ends.
  • Upfront and monthly are the cheapest published upfront price and the cheapest published monthly fee, as on the cheapest page. "No upfront cost" counts listings with an option that costs nothing to start.
  • The mix changes. A move in the median can come from price changes or from which listings we can cost that month, which is why the table shows listings costed and price changes seen.
  • Published prices only. These are estimates from what syndicates say on their own sites, not quotes or advice, and prices change often. Always check current terms with the syndicate. Racehorse ownership is a hobby, not an investment.

The snapshot is taken from the directory data on 23 Oct 2026 (prices last checked 19 Oct 2026). New months are added on the 1st. Want the numbers behind it? See the cheapest first-year table or work out your own with the Cost Calculator.
