Syndicate Cost Calculator
Add up what a racehorse share really costs: the upfront price, the monthly fees and any extras, over the first year and the whole term. Then see what a win would actually pay you.
What It Costs
Doesn't include vet bills, travel or race-day spending unless the syndicate's price covers them. Estimates, not quotes.
What If It Wins?
A win is a lovely bonus, not something to bank on. Here's roughly what one ordinary win would pay you.
"min." = the BHA's 2026 minimum prize fund for that class (BHA, 2 Oct 2026). Many races pay more, and minimums rise in 2027. "Example" is a round £10,000, as in our guide.
Approx. BHA rule for an ordinary race with four prizes: 42.67% Flat, 41.73% Jumps.
Approx. Some keep a cut for VAT, admin or entries. Ask yours.
Most runs don't end in a win (syndicate horses in our directory won 12.6% of their 4,335 runs in 2026), and most owners spend more than their horse wins. Budget only what you'd happily spend on a hobby, and treat any prize money as a bonus.
How we work it out: total prize fund × the winning owner's percentage × (100% − deductions) × your share. Percentages from the BHA Rules of Racing, Stakes & Prize Money Code, paragraph 36 (BHA Rules of Racing, 15 October 2026 edition, version 2026.4.1, read 21 Oct 2026). Pattern, Listed and amateur races use different splits. Placings pay less: second is half the winner's share. Before any tax or VAT. 9 listings say they pass prize money on with no deductions.
