Buying A Racehorse Share As A Gift
The Short Answer
Yes, you can give someone a share in a racehorse or a racing club membership. We checked the websites of 28 syndicates and clubs in our directory on 21 Oct 2026 (the most successful in 2026 results and the cheapest to join): 8 say they sell gift vouchers or gift shares. The easiest gifts are fixed-price and fixed-term, so the person you're buying for has nothing more to pay. The cheapest full year we can cost is £99 (Elite Racing Club).

Checked on each syndicate's own website on 21 Oct 2026. Est. first year comes from our first-year cost estimates; "Ask syndicate" means the published prices don't add up to a clear year. We also checked Grange Park Racing, Chris Honour Racing, BG Racing Syndicates, The Legacy Group Racing Club, Vesper Solis Racing, Hicky Parmar Racing, Run Away Racing, URSA Major Racing, Highclere Racing, Value Racing Club, The Horse Watchers, Alan King Racing Club, Kennet Valley Syndicates, Foxtrot Racing Management, Noel Fehily Racing Syndicates, Fakenham Race Club and didn't find a gift option on their sites, and couldn't load the sites of Ontoawinner, Nick Brown Racing, Charlie Longsdon Racing, Tim Easterby – Reality Partnerships that day. That doesn't mean they won't help: ask them.
Two Kinds Of Gift
- A gift voucher lets the person you're buying for choose their own horse. Middleham Park Racing will personalise a voucher for any amount above £50, valid for 12 months and usable as part payment towards a share. Racing Club (RC Syndicates) and RaceShare / Santorini Thoroughbreds sell vouchers that are redeemed online, sent on the date you choose.
- A gift share or membership means you pick the horse or club and it's set up in their name. Elite Racing Club has a gift option on its join form, and you can have the pack sent to you to hand over. Owners Group lets the welcome pack go to you or straight to the recipient. Amazing Racing Syndicates sends a gift pack with a Certificate of Ownership, a photo of the horse and fact sheets. Old Gold Racing asks you to say at checkout that it's for someone else, and sends a welcome pack in their name. Hambleton Racing arranges gifts personally with its team rather than online.
What Makes A Good Gift Share
- One price, a fixed term. A year's membership or an all-in annual share is a present; a share with a monthly fee is a present that keeps sending bills. Of the 24 listings we can cost, 11 are priced as a single payment for the year.
- Nothing more to pay. Check whether there are top-ups if costs overrun, and whether VAT is extra. Hambleton Racing is upfront about this: its gift page says shares start from around £3,000, with monthly costs of £299 to £355 depending on the trainer (source).
- Something to look forward to. Owners' badges, stable visits and regular updates are what make it feel real. See our guide to owners' badges and race days.
- An easy ending. Can it simply lapse at the end, or does it renew automatically? Elite Racing Club says members are under no obligation to renew (its FAQ).
- The right horse for them. Flat or Jumps, near home or near a favourite course, a big operation or a small one. The Matchmaker picks three that fit a budget in five questions.
Gift Ideas By Budget
Every costed option under £1,000 for the first year, cheapest first, with whether the syndicate's own site mentions a gift option. "Includes 12 monthly fees" means the figure adds up a year of monthly payments, so decide who'll pay those after the first month.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elite Racing Club Racing club | 12-month Club membership (no further payment requests) | £99 | One price for the year | Gift share |
| Grange Park Racing Syndicate | Club horse share, “from £145 for the year” | £145 | One price for the year | Not on its site: ask |

Giving It For Christmas Or A Birthday
- Pick a start date. Some syndicates let you set one, so updates don't arrive before the big reveal (see the questions below).
- Get the pack sent to you. If you'd rather hand it over yourself, ask for the welcome pack to come to your address.
- Leave time for post. Printed packs and certificates take a few days; vouchers sent by email don't.
- Think about the season. The main jumps season runs through the autumn and winter, while the main Flat turf season is spring and summer, so a Jumps horse or a club with both codes gives someone a horse to follow straight away in December. See Jumps syndicates, Flat syndicates and Flat or Jumps compared.
Before You Buy
- Ask whose name goes on the agreement, and whether the recipient needs to sign anything.
- Ask what's included in the price and what isn't. Our guide what do syndicate fees cover? lists the usual extras.
- Ask how long it lasts and what happens at the end: renewal, sale of the horse or nothing at all.
- Read the agreement before paying. Racehorse ownership is a hobby, not an investment, so it's a gift of fun rather than money.

Questions People Ask
Can I buy a racehorse share as a gift?
Yes. 8 of the 28 syndicates and clubs we checked say on their own websites that you can buy a share, a membership or a voucher for someone else: Middleham Park Racing, RaceShare / Santorini Thoroughbreds, Racing Club (RC Syndicates), Amazing Racing Syndicates, Elite Racing Club, Hambleton Racing, Old Gold Racing, Owners Group. Others may be able to help if you ask.
What's the cheapest racehorse ownership gift?
The cheapest full year we can cost is Elite Racing Club: £99 for a 12-month membership, and it also sells six months for £59 (its join page, checked 21 Oct 2026). It's a club, so the member follows the club's horses rather than owning part of one.
Will the person I'm buying for have anything else to pay?
Only if the share has ongoing fees. A one-payment membership or an all-in annual share covers the period you've paid for. A share with a monthly fee keeps costing money after the first month, so agree who's paying it before you buy. Either way, read the agreement for top-ups, renewals and what happens at the end.
Can I choose when the gift starts?
Several syndicates say you can. Elite Racing Club lets you pick a start date such as Christmas Day, Owners Group lets you choose a date and where the welcome pack goes, and Racing Club (RC Syndicates) and RaceShare / Santorini Thoroughbreds send vouchers on the date you choose. Allow time for the post if a printed pack is involved.
