The Syndicate Report: Autumn 2026 Is Out
Our first quarterly report is out today. It turns the data behind RacingDatabase.com into one page of facts you're welcome to quote, with the method, the dates and the limits shown.
- Results, Q3 2026: listed syndicates had 177 wins from 1,358 runs (13.0%), level with Q2 (183 from 1,406). 149 of the 470 horses that ran won at least once.
- Cost: the median first year is £900 across the 28 listings with a price we can work out.
- Price Per 1%: the median first year per 1% of a horse is £1,155 across 69 sterling shares. Lower isn't automatically better value.
- The Funding Squeeze: what the rise in betting duties from April 2027 could mean for prize money. There's more on that further down.

The Funding Squeeze: Will Shares Get Dearer?
The October 2026 Budget raises Machine Games Duty on high-stake betting shop machines from 20% to 25% from 1 April 2027, according to GOV.UK. Online bets on UK horseracing stay at 15%.
Why does a syndicate owner care? Because a big slice of British prize money comes from betting. The BHA says British prize money was £194.7m in 2025: £103.3m from racecourses (whose income includes media rights paid largely by bookmakers), £63.3m from the Levy Board and £26.8m from owners' own entry fees. Racing's bodies say fewer betting shops could mean less money for prize funds. Ireland works differently: Horse Racing Ireland says its 2026 prize money budget is a record €74.7m, mostly government-funded.
What could it mean for your share? Prize money doesn't set fees, so a share won't get dearer overnight. Training fees follow costs, and the 3.9% National Living Wage rise in April 2027 is a more direct pressure on them. Lower prize money would mostly show up as smaller winnings to share out.
Our October 2026 baseline, taken from prices checked just before the Budget: a median first year of £900, and a median monthly fee of £62.50 across 36 listings. We'll track both every month on the Price Index, so you'll see if prices move.
