New: Price Per 1%, Share Prices On One Scale
A share of 5% and a share of 1 in 4,000 are hard to compare. Price Per 1% shows what owning 1% of a horse costs in the first year, for 71 shares and 24 syndicates, from £310 to £4,800.

Racehorse shares come in all shapes. One syndicate sells 5% for £1,550, another sells 1% with no upfront cost and a monthly fee, and a racing club sells 1 of 4,000 shares at £120. It's hard to see which is cheaper at a glance, so we've added a new page that puts them on one scale. As always, it's free and built only from each syndicate's own published prices.
What Is Price Per 1%?
Price Per 1% shows what it costs to own 1% of a horse. For each share on sale we take the upfront price plus twelve months of any monthly fee (the first-year cost), then divide by the percentage of the horse you get. Shares are listed by syndicate and can be sorted by upfront, monthly or first-year cost per 1%.
The Numbers
When we checked on 26 Oct 2026, 94 of the 129 shares on our Shares For Sale list stated a share size we could use. Of those, 71 are sterling shares that give you part-ownership of a horse with both prices published, from 21 syndicates:
- Lowest first-year cost per 1%: £310, for Easy To Follow (Olly Murphy, Jumps) at Foxtrot Racing Management: 5% for £1,550 with no monthly fee.
- Median: £1,096 per 1%.
- Highest: £4,800 per 1%, for a 1 of 4,000 share at £120 from Racing Club (RC Syndicates).
- Leases are shown separately, because with a lease you don't own the horse. The 9 lease shares we can compare range from £139 to £456 per 1% a year, and our guide to leasing or buying a racehorse explains the difference.
- Three more syndicates have no share in our Shares For Sale list right now but state their share size on their own listing, so 24 syndicates have a figure in all.
- Ireland stays in euros as published and is kept out of the sterling comparison.
What We Don't Show
If a syndicate doesn't publish the share size, the page says "Not published" rather than guessing. Racing clubs that sell membership rather than a percentage of a horse are marked as clubs, because they can't be compared per 1%. That covers 35 of the 129 shares (31 with no published size and 4 clubs). A further 11 shares state a size but don't publish both an upfront and a monthly price, so we can't work out a first-year figure for them.
A Lower Figure Isn't Automatically Better Value
Price Per 1% compares prices, not horses. A cheaper share can be in a horse with a lower rating, a different trainer or different terms: how long the share lasts, what the monthly fee covers, how prize money is split and what happens if the horse is sold. Treat it as a starting point, then check the details on the syndicate's own page. Our guide to what a racehorse share costs is a good place to start.
