Two Horse Racing Tips For Kempton On Saturday
The weather has decimated the race meetings this week, hence our absence, and today has turned out to be the worst of the lot with Ascot, Haydock, Lingfield and Taunton all falling foul of the weather. So, the only race meeting we’re left with in the UK today is Kempton, which isn’t a bad card actually, but it’s still a bit of a disappointment to lose so much decent racing on a Saturday afternoon.
I won’t be betting heavy today, but there are two horses that interest me and I’ll explain why…
Kempton 2.20pm – Angelic Upstart
This is a hot little race with a host of in-form runners, but the one who takes my eye is Andrew Balding’s Angelic Upstart. The stable has been in good form over the last couple of weeks with 3 winners and 6 placed from 11 runners (a 55% win/place strike-rate) and I think they might have found a good opportunity for the selection. He’s been running over 9 furlongs lately and failing to see out the final furlong, but today he drops back a furlong in trip. He’s down in grade, the handicapper has dropped him 1lb and he’s got a very capable 7lb claimer onboard, so he should go close.
Kempton 3.30pm – Spinning Ridge
The first thing that drew me to this horse was the stallion stats at Kempton over the last couple of years. Spinning World’s prodigy have ran 14 times at the course, winning 6 times (43% strike-rate) for a profit of 39 points. Now, this is NOT a good race by any means and none of the runners are in any way consistent, but the handicapper has given a real chance to Spinning Ridge by dropping him to a mark of 57 and I suspect that the step back in trip should suit him too. His last success, in March last year, was off a mark of 70 over this same course and distance, so he could go well at a nice price!

The weather forecast is for more of the same this week coming, and possibly beyond too, but hopefully we should have a bit more horse racing action to get stuck into next week!
